Creating a new pot holder/hot pad

Sometimes I get the urge to create something totally different from what I have been working on.  Yesterday was one of those days.  After getting my husband off to work at 5:30 a.m., I usually work on my projects.  I have an afghan in the works but it is getting too hot to work on, especially in the middle of the day.  I wanted something small and easy to carry around with me (as I go to the doctor or when I go fishing with my husband) so a pot holder seemed just the perfect item to work on.  After looking around on Pinterest for a while, I found just the thing, I thought. It was similar to a pillow I had made back in the 80's and an afghan I made for my son in the 90's which I had adapted from the pillow.   After working from the published pattern, I realized that it was not really what I was looking for.  I wanted something that would be pretty, but also useful.  In other words, it had to be thick enough to use when handling hot pots, pans, or casserole dishes.  So of course I did what I normally do.  I used the idea and modified it to fit my purpose.  The end result is a very pretty pot holder that is thick enough to protect.  Of course, I used 100% cotton yarn so it will withstand the heat.  Check out the photo please.
